River Flow Yoga was started by Mary Hilliker in 2006 as a mobile yoga teaching business.  Heather Van Dalfsen joined the teaching collaboration in 2010.  River Flow Yoga evolved into a yoga teacher training school in 2015 with the opening of 5 Koshas Yoga & Wellness in Wausau, WI.  All yoga classes and workshops formerly offered through River Flow Yoga are now a part of 5 Koshas Yoga & Wellness at 2220 Sherman Street, Wausau, WI.

River Flow Yoga teacher training offerings are in the Viniyoga tradition.  Mary’s teacher in Viniyoga and Yoga Therapy is Gary Kraftsow, of the American Viniyoga Institute.  She continues to work with and study with Gary at least twice each year.  Mary also studied early on with Elizabeth Patric of Three Lakes, WI in a hatha yoga lineage.

Three Reasons for River Flow Yoga

The Wausau area has many rivers, mainly the Wisconsin, Rib and Eau Claire rivers, which provide a source of beauty, inspiration and reflection.

Rivers are a deep source of inspiration for Mary, dating back to canoe trips with her dad, siblings, cousins and friends on the Rib River and Eau Pleine flowage and continuing today with her husband, Kim, and her wooden kayak.

Rivers have a deeper symbolic meaning in the tradition of yoga.  They are symbols of flow, of cleansing, of rejuvenation.
